Every weekday morning the BBC TV programme Axe The Agent follows two new sellers who aim to sell their homes without using an estate agent, the presenters Gary McCausland and former estate agent Jonny Benarr give expert advice on how to present a property for sale and achieve the best price using tricks of the trade.
The BBC show proves that there is a growing interest in using other marketing methods other than the traditional estate agent to sell a property, and more and more people are starting to sell there own home and save on agents fees.
The show has generated some rumblings in the press as estate agents are unhappy that the program could affect the income of thousands of estate agents, the founder of a well known property portal has called on the BBC to axe the program stating that it is is antagonistic and irresponsible.
The credit crunch and current market conditions have seen a drop in house prices, this is causing sellers to consider to look beyond the traditional estate agent route to more cost-effective way to achieve the best price, without incurring hefty commission charges.
The show demonstrates the different marketing methods that can be used, clearly showing that some are more successful than others. However what you must appreciate is that the best marketing tools are used by estate agents, for sale signs, online marketing and news paper advertising.
